A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare

UK tour, July - September 2023

Hermia and Lysander plan to elope so they can defy her parents' wish that she marry Demetrius. They take off into the enchanted woods with Demetrius and the love-lorn Helena hot on their heels.

Deep in the magical forest, the King and Queen of the faeries, Oberon and Titania, are having a marital spat. It is into this enchanted chaos that the lovers stumble and find their predicament further entangled by the faeries' magical meddling.

To complicate matters, some hapless locals are caught in the crossfire of Oberon's jealous revenge plot aided by his mischievous sprite, Puck. They see their play rehearsals as a very serious matter, but when their lead actor, Bottom, is transformed into an ass, things go predictably awry. Their final presentation of the play is the comedic culmination of A Midsummer Night's Dream and arguably Shakespeare's finest comedy moment.

“You had my son laughing so hard, he could barely catch his breath. A wonderful way to inspire him to create a passion for Shakespeare and the Arts!”
Amanda Jones - Bletchley Park

“An evening of love and laughter, fun and frolics, this delightful production is simply a dream.”
Fairy Powered Productions - Brockley Jack Studio Theatre

“In the black box space of the Jack Studio Theatre, Conor Cook and Heather Simpkin's set is instantly effective… Simpkin's costumes are a further joy; when there are so many minimalist black box Shakespeares, it is wonderful to see a play that revels in theatrical colour.”
Lost in Theatreland - Brockley Jack Studio Theatre

“Adapted brilliantly by Heather Simpkin to be performed by a cast of only six… Those who know the play will find it a refreshing, lively, retelling and those who do not know the story will find it a good introduction. I thoroughly recommend it.”
North West End Review - Brockley Jack Studio Theatre

“This Bear in the Air production, directed with great invention by Conor Cook, is as good an introduction to the Bard as could be and for those already acquainted proves totally charming. — ★★★★”
William Russell, ReviewsGate - Brockley Jack Studio Theatre

“It's a delightful surprise to see a production which has actors speaking the text in freshly nuanced ways and features some interesting directorial ingenuity. It also made me giggle throughout, often in places I'd never found especially funny before.”
